Look Whose out and about...................
this was at 08.30 this morning......
which is good because by this time the past 3 days she has been snuggled up on the nest!! So my regime may have worked? I had been letting her sleep with the rest of them, then she got up and went out and ate and drank then by about 08.00 she had been ensconced on the nest so I put her in the basket and then at 20.00 I let her out and back in with the rest!
Success, I think, I hope?!?!

I to love Oxalis....its the colour, lovely.
That is an extarordinary plant. I am fascinated with the shape of the leaves.

I was just reading your blog and looking at the great pictures. I noticed the metal (chicken feeder?) in the pics. I am a decorative artist and used to find these things at garage sales. I painted them (after cleaning the up) with country scenes barns, chickens etc. and I sold them. Lots of farm families have them in their kitchens or gardens where I lived. It just brought back some memories.. I still paint but not as much...more gardening today.

I think that oxalis....plant is one my mother had which she called the butterfly plant because of its pretty leaves.
You are much more savvy about chickens than I am. We just have the one who adopted us last year. I have found a few broken egg shells and she seems to be thriving on bird seed (shelled sunflower seeds) but she disappears for a day or two at a time and I'm not sure where she is. Since she is not legally mine and the humane society won't do anything about her, (she is considered feral)I just make sure she has water and food. Fortunately our temperatures are mild in the winter and not too hot in the summer.
Whoo hoo, result!!! I hope you've seen the last of broody Babs, Libby. Apparently the trick with the cage has worked. I've read about giving them a cold bath too and for some chickens it does do the trick but not for Babs. I'm glad the cage method has met with more success!
